About Kamalaya

Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary is an integrative wellness retreat on the southeastern coast of Koh Samui, Thailand. The name translates as "Lotus Realm" — a reflection of the sanctuary's founding philosophy of personal transformation. Set within dense tropical vegetation and ancient granite boulders, the property includes 250 metres of private beachfront and the Arjan Cave, a sacred meditation site once used by Buddhist monks that remains at the heart of the retreat today.

The sanctuary blends Eastern healing traditions with modern integrative medicine through 19 personalised wellness programmes covering detox, gut health, stress recovery, sleep enhancement and emotional balance — all supported by a multidisciplinary team including naturopaths, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, nutritionists and life enhancement mentors.

01

Guests seeking a comprehensive programme

19 options from 3 to 21 nights across detox, gut health, sleep, stress recovery and emotional balance — with longer stays recommended for burnout, gut imbalance or sleep disruption.

02

Solo travellers

The communal dining table at Soma, group classes and a warm atmosphere make it easy to connect — without any expectation to do so.

03

Those interested in advanced wellness technologies

The Cognitive House and Longevity House offer neurofeedback, photobiomodulation, IV therapy and hyperbaric oxygen — well beyond what most wellness retreats provide.

04

Guests experiencing prolonged stress or burnout

No televisions, no Wi-Fi in shared areas, the Arjan Cave meditation space and 250 metres of private beachfront — a genuine disconnection from daily life.

Hotel Facilities

Kamalaya is designed around the natural landscape rather than imposed upon it — granite boulders, dense tropical vegetation and 250 metres of private beachfront shape the grounds, with the buildings and pathways winding between them. Facilities include a 25-metre lap pool, leisure and plunge pools, a library, art gallery, boutique and a selection of lounge areas. The boutique stocks locally sourced crafts, wellness products, clothing and books.

The Arjan Cave — a sacred space once used by Buddhist monks for meditation — remains open throughout the day for personal reflection. A daily schedule of optional activities runs alongside programmes: yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, pranayama, meditation and guided coastal walks, open to all levels.

Wellness Facilities

Each stay at Kamalaya begins with a wellness consultation, shaping a programme aligned with individual health goals — physical, emotional or spiritual. The multidisciplinary team includes naturopaths, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, nutritionists, life enhancement mentors, and specialists in Thai and Ayurvedic therapies, with Western medical consultations available where appropriate.

Specialist facilities include the Cognitive House, which supports brain health and mental performance through neurofeedback, photobiomodulation, craniosacral therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, alongside mindfulness practices and TCM consultations. The Longevity House focuses on preventative and regenerative health through IV therapies, ozone therapy and hyperbaric oxygen sessions, with grooming treatments at the Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio by Bastien Gonzalez.

Additional treatment and recovery facilities include a herbal steam cavern, hot and cold plunge pools, an infrared sauna and hydrotherapy areas.

Dining

Cuisine is an integral part of the wellness experience at Kamalaya. Menus are created using fresh, seasonal ingredients drawing on both Asian and Western culinary traditions. Whether on a structured detox programme or simply choosing to eat well, meals are designed to be nourishing, balanced and genuinely enjoyable.

Soma meaning "food of the gods", Kamalaya's main restaurant offers valley and ocean views alongside intimate tables and a communal dining space where guests may choose to eat together.

Amrita Café located beside the pool and overlooking lotus ponds and the sea, Amrita Café serves light, healthy meals in a relaxed open-air setting.

The Alchemy Tea Lounge a peaceful space for sunset views, serving medicinal herbal teas, elixirs and cold-pressed juices, with wine and beer available for guests not following a detox programme.

Good to Know

Kamalaya operates a digital detox policy throughout the sanctuary. Wi-Fi is unavailable in shared public areas and rooms do not include televisions — a deliberate choice to support full immersion in the retreat experience. Guests receive a complimentary journal on arrival.

Accommodation

Kamalaya offers 76 rooms, suites and villas, each designed around the natural landscape of granite boulders, tropical gardens and coastal views. Interiors use natural materials, warm tones and open spaces, with every room featuring a private balcony or terrace.

Options range from hillside rooms nestled among tropical greenery to spacious beachfront and ocean-view villas. Room categories include Hillside Rooms, Suites, Superior Suites, Pool Suites and Pool Villas, with beachfront options for guests wanting the most direct connection to the private beach.

Location

Kamalaya sits on the southeastern coast of Koh Samui, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand, approximately 45 minutes by car from Koh Samui International Airport.

The location is deliberately removed from the busier resort areas of the island. Chaweng and Lamai are a drive away, and the private beachfront setting gives Kamalaya a sense of seclusion that most Koh Samui properties closer to the main strips simply cannot replicate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary unique?

Kamalaya is a wellness sanctuary and holistic spa retreat in Koh Samui, set on the southeastern coast of the island within dense tropical vegetation, granite boulders and 250 metres of private beachfront. At its heart is the Arjan Cave — a sacred site once used by Buddhist monks for meditation that remains open to guests throughout the day. The multidisciplinary team includes naturopaths, Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, nutritionists, life enhancement mentors and Western medical doctors, delivering 19 personalised wellness programmes from 3 to 21 nights.

What does Kamalaya mean?

Kamalaya translates as "Lotus Realm" in Sanskrit — the lotus symbolising purity, renewal and spiritual growth. The name reflects the retreat's founding philosophy of personal transformation and its roots in Eastern healing traditions.

What wellness programmes are available at Kamalaya?

19 programmes run from 3 to 21 nights across detox, gut health, sleep enhancement, stress recovery, emotional balance, fitness, weight management and women's health. Every stay begins with a personal wellness consultation that shapes the programme, alongside daily group classes — yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Qi Gong and meditation — open to all levels and included for all guests.

What specialist wellness facilities does Kamalaya offer?

The Cognitive House supports brain health and mental performance through neurofeedback, photobiomodulation, craniosacral therapy and hyperbaric oxygen. The Longevity House focuses on preventative and regenerative health through IV therapies, ozone therapy and hyperbaric oxygen. Treatment facilities include a herbal steam cavern, hot and cold plunge pools, an infrared sauna, hydrotherapy areas and the Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio by Bastien Gonzalez.

Is Kamalaya suitable for stress and burnout recovery?

Kamalaya is a frequent choice for guests experiencing prolonged stress, fatigue or emotional strain. The digital detox policy — no Wi-Fi in shared areas, no televisions in rooms — alongside the Arjan Cave, the private beachfront and the structured daily programme create a setting where genuine rest is possible. The stress and burnout recovery programmes combine therapies, TCM consultations and daily practices to address both symptoms and underlying causes.

Is Kamalaya suitable for solo travellers?

Many guests arrive alone. The communal dining table at Soma, shared morning classes and a generally warm atmosphere make it comfortable to connect with others when wanted. The structured daily programme provides a natural rhythm that suits solo travel particularly well.

When is the best time to visit Kamalaya?

Kamalaya is open year-round. The dry season from December to April offers the most settled weather on Koh Samui's southeastern coast — the most reliable period for outdoor activities and beach time. The shoulder months of November and May offer quieter stays with good weather. The Gulf of Thailand side of the island tends to be drier than the west coast during the main monsoon season from June to October, and the retreat's indoor facilities and programme remain fully available throughout.

How do I get to Kamalaya?

Kamalaya is on the southeastern coast of Koh Samui, approximately 45 minutes from Koh Samui International Airport. The airport receives direct flights from Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong and other regional hubs. Private airport transfers are included in all retreat bookings.
