Euphoria Retreat

Five Element Holistic Spa and Wellness Retreat

About Euphoria Retreat

Euphoria Retreat is a multi-award-winning destination spa set within the UNESCO World Heritage site of Mystras, on the pine-covered slopes of Mount Taygetus in the Peloponnese, Greece. Awarded a Michelin Key in 2025, it sits within 40,000sqm of private pine forest and mountain grounds — one of the most striking settings of any wellness property in Europe.

The retreat is built on the Euphoria Methodos — an integration of Hellenic and Eastern wellness philosophies with modern therapeutic practice, using the Five Elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether) as a framework for personalised care. Every stay begins with a consultation that shapes the programme around individual goals, whether that's stress management, detox, emotional healing, fitness or longevity.

The 3,000sqm Byzantine-inspired spa houses over 70 treatment rooms alongside one of the most comprehensive facility lists in Europe — thermal pools, Byzantine hammam, Watsu pool, sanctuary deprivation pool, Kneipp waterwell, salt room and more. The medieval ruins of Mystras are directly adjacent to the grounds.

Who It's For

Euphoria Retreat suits guests looking for a holistic wellness retreat in Greece that goes well beyond a standard spa break — the Five Element methodology, Byzantine-inspired spa and UNESCO World Heritage setting giving it a depth and character that rewards guests who want professional guidance and genuine results. It's particularly suited to:

01

Those drawn to a named wellness methodology

The Euphoria Methodos draws on Traditional Chinese Medicine, ancient Hellenic medicine and Taoism, shaped around individual goals from the first assessment.

02

Guests who want exceptional spa facilities

The 3,000sqm Byzantine-inspired spa has over 70 treatment rooms — Byzantine hammam, Watsu pool, sanctuary deprivation pool, speleotherapy salt room, Kneipp waterwell and more.

03

Those looking for a nature-led mountain setting

40,000sqm of pine-covered grounds on Mount Taygetus, with the UNESCO World Heritage ruins of Mystras directly adjacent.

04

Solo travellers and couples seeking depth over entertainment

45 rooms and suites, technology limited to bedrooms, and a daily rhythm of classes, treatments and meals that creates natural structure.

Hotel Facilities

The estate covers 78,000sqm of gardens and private pine forest, with walking trails through the grounds and hiking routes leading up into Mount Taygetus — the E4 European long-distance hiking route crosses the mountain. The gardens at the front look across the citrus valley to the village of Mystras and are laid out in sections corresponding to each of the five elements, with a walking labyrinth above them.

Indoors, a yoga and meditation hall, Pilates studio and Technogym-equipped fitness room sit alongside a relaxation area overlooking the gardens. Daily group activities are included and run through the week: yoga, mat Pilates, functional fitness, TRX, Tai Chi, meditation, and morning walks and treks on Mount Taygetus.

Wellness Facilities

The spa occupies four floors and around 3,000sqm. At its centre is the Sphere Pool — a domed structure standing in the water, with stone arches cut through at water level and hydrotherapy jets set into the inner walls. The indoor-outdoor pool looks across to Mystras village and the forest beyond.

The thermal circuit works through heat and cold in sequence. The Byzantine hammam sits under a domed roof. The tepidarium is kept at 37 to 39°C, with marble benches, walls and floor radiating the warmth. A Finnish sauna, steam room and separate infrared saunas for men and women sit alongside a speleotherapy salt room. Cooling comes through a plunge pool, experiential showers and the Waterwell — a spiral staircase down to alternating hot and cold footbaths.

Fifteen treatment rooms cover massage — deep tissue, lymphatic drainage, shiatsu, reflexology and hot stone — alongside acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, Reiki and chakra balancing. Biologique Recherche facials are available on the cosmetic side, with physiotherapy and osteopathy on request.

The precision medicine programmes work with the EUCRASIA-IMON laboratories in Thessaloniki. A diagnostics kit is sent ahead of arrival, analysed across more than 250 biomarkers, with results reviewed in an online consultation before travel. Interventions include intravenous and ozone therapies, with a two-month follow-up after departure.

Dining

GAIA takes its name from the Greek for Earth. The cooking is Greek and Mediterranean, prepared daily with fresh herbs and whole ingredients, with menus built to support digestion so treatments can do more. For guests on programmes that include the 3GL assessment — a patented analysis of how the body metabolises food, developed by Doctor George Leon — meals are planned directly from the results. There is no deprivation built into it.

Euphoria recommends an alcohol-free stay — wine and drinks are available at the restaurant and bar on request but are not stocked in the minibar. Coffee is not served as standard; specific types are available on request, with a wide selection of herbal teas as the natural alternative. Private dining is available in the Leoncini Mansion, with a monastery-style table, candlelight and pieces from the owner's collection.

Good to Know

To support rest and presence during the stay, use of technology is intentionally limited to guest bedrooms and reception. This helps create a quieter atmosphere across shared spaces and encourages a clearer sense of separation from daily routines.

Accommodation

Euphoria Retreat has 45 rooms and suites, each designed with soft earth tones, natural materials and a calm aesthetic inspired by the local landscape and Byzantine heritage. Rooms have underfloor heating, spacious layouts, luxury linens and views over the gardens or Mount Taygetus.

Suites offer private balconies or terraces and separate living areas — well suited to longer stays or guests who want more space between sessions. Technology is limited to bedrooms in shared spaces, keeping the communal areas of the retreat quiet throughout the day.

Location

Euphoria Retreat sits within the UNESCO World Heritage site of Mystras, on the slopes of Mount Taygetus in the Peloponnese. The medieval Byzantine ruins of the ancient city lie directly adjacent to the retreat grounds and are accessible on foot — one of the few wellness properties in the world positioned within a living archaeological site.

The setting is forested and elevated, with pine trees, mountain air and views across the citrus valley below. Athens is approximately 250 kilometres away — around 2.5 hours by car. Kalamata Airport is the more practical option for many guests, around 45 minutes from the retreat, with connections from several European cities.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Euphoria Retreat and what makes it special?

Euphoria Retreat is a holistic wellness retreat in Greece, set within the UNESCO World Heritage site of Mystras on the pine-covered slopes of Mount Taygetus in the Peloponnese — awarded a Michelin Key in 2025 and recognised as World's Best Destination Spa. The 3,000sqm Byzantine-inspired spa has over 70 treatment rooms and a programme-led approach built on the Euphoria Methodos — an integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, ancient Hellenic medicine and Taoism shaped around individual goals from the first consultation.

What makes Euphoria Retreat different from other wellness retreats in Greece?

Euphoria Retreat stands out for its Byzantine-inspired spa, one of the largest in Europe, and its structured, programme-led approach based on the Five Element Euphoria Methodology. Unlike hotel spas or resorts with wellness add-ons, Euphoria is a dedicated wellness retreat where every element is integrated into a holistic experience. Its UNESCO World Heritage location, focus on emotional wellbeing alongside physical health, and international recognition set it apart from fitness-focused or detox-only retreats.

What types of wellness programmes are offered?

Twelve programmes run from 3 to 21 nights, covering emotional balance, detox, physical wellness, fitness, weight loss, longevity and nutrigenomics with biohacking. Every stay begins with a consultation that shapes the programme, and includes daily movement sessions, spa treatments, wellness workshops and nutrition guidance. The 3GL metabolic assessment — a patented analysis of how the body metabolises food developed by Doctor George Leon — informs menus directly for guests on relevant programmes.

What are the spa facilities like at Euphoria Retreat?

The Byzantine-inspired spa covers 3,000sqm across four floors. At its centre is the Sphere Pool — a domed structure standing in the water with stone arches at water level and hydrotherapy jets in the inner walls. The thermal circuit works through the Byzantine hammam, tepidarium at 37-39°C, Finnish sauna, steam room, infrared saunas, speleotherapy salt room and Kneipp Waterwell. Fifteen treatment rooms cover massage, acupuncture, craniosacral therapy, Reiki, chakra balancing and Biologique Recherche facials, with physiotherapy and osteopathy available on request.

What is the food like at Euphoria Retreat?

GAIA Restaurant serves Greek and Mediterranean cuisine prepared daily with fresh herbs and whole seasonal ingredients, with menus built to support digestion alongside treatments. For guests on the 3GL programme, meals are planned directly from the metabolic assessment results. Euphoria recommends an alcohol-free stay — wine and drinks are available at the restaurant and bar on request but are not stocked in the minibar. Coffee is not served as standard, with a wide selection of herbal teas available throughout.

Is Euphoria Retreat good for solo travellers?

Yes. Euphoria Retreat is well suited to solo travellers seeking a supportive, structured wellness environment with depth and guidance. Many guests visit alone and benefit from the retreat's calm atmosphere, personalised programmes, daily movement sessions, and optional group activities. The setting encourages reflection and presence, while the structured schedule provides rhythm and purpose. There's also flexibility for independent time, whether hiking through the extensive gardens, enjoying the spa, or simply resting.

When is the best time to visit Euphoria Retreat?

Euphoria Retreat is open year-round. Spring and autumn — April to June and September to October — offer the most rewarding conditions for outdoor activities, with mild temperatures for hiking on Mount Taygetus and the grounds at their most beautiful. Summer brings warmer temperatures and longer evenings. Winter visits are quieter and particularly well suited to deeper programme work and the indoor spa facilities.

How do I get to Euphoria Retreat?

Kalamata Airport is approximately 45 minutes from the retreat, with seasonal flights from several European cities running from April to October. Athens International Airport is approximately 2.5 hours away by road and the most reliable arrival point outside the summer season.
