About Amatara Welleisure Resort

Amatara Welleisure Resort is a five-star wellness resort on Cape Panwa, a quiet headland on the south-eastern tip of Phuket, Thailand. Set on a hillside above the Andaman Sea, every suite and villa looks out over the water, with high walls and tall trees giving the resort a secluded feel. At its heart is a 1,500sqm wellness centre, home to Amatara’s signature Thai Hammam, which combines Middle Eastern bathing traditions with Thai herbs and therapies.

Every wellness programme begins with a consultation with the resort’s naturopath, and stays are shaped by Amatara’s Welleisure philosophy — a “middle way” that pairs purposeful wellbeing with the enjoyment of a holiday. Whether the focus is detox, gut health, stress recovery or weight management, programmes bring together holistic treatments, physiotherapy, daily movement and organic, whole-food cuisine tailored to each guest’s goals.

The Welleisure Approach

Welleisure is the philosophy behind every stay at Amatara, guided by a “middle way” that blends enjoyment with purposeful wellbeing. It rests on four pillars — Wellbeing, building a stay around each guest’s lifestyle and health; Individualised, with programmes designed for personal goals; Small Steps, so change is easy to sustain; and Enjoyable, because habits that are enjoyed are the ones that last.

Every programme begins with a consultation with the resort’s naturopath, who discusses health needs, goals and any concerns, and explains the schedule, treatments and menu in detail. All guests are also entitled to a complimentary physical analysis with the resort’s licensed physiotherapist, assessing posture and alignment before exercise.

Hotel Facilities

The resort is laid out across the hillside of Cape Panwa, with the Andaman Sea in view throughout. An infinity pool sits at the centre of the resort, The Beach Table serves drinks and light snacks on the beachfront, and the Sun & Moon rooftop terrace looks out across the sea.

Beyond the spa, there’s a tennis court, a library lounge at Stories, and a programme of workshops including healthy cooking classes in Thai and wellness cuisine, and Green Living sessions making natural soaps, candles and lip balms. Visiting practitioners and wellness events run through the year, and a Kids’ Club welcomes younger guests during the day.

Wellness Facilities

The 1,500sqm wellness centre has 12 holistic spa treatment rooms and suites, home to Amatara’s signature Thai Hammam Journey — a gentle take on the Middle Eastern hammam using Thai herbs and natural products, moving between warm and cold water, steam, heated stone beds, ice and sauna, with a salt lounge to rest afterwards. The treatment menu covers Thai and Ayurvedic massage, holistic and facial treatments, colon hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and emotional healing therapies.

A medical wellness offering adds comprehensive health checks, sleep testing, hormone screening, micronutrient, food intolerance and heavy metal testing, and genetic testing. For movement, the fitness centre overlooks the Andaman Sea, the Synergy Studio hosts daily group yoga and fitness classes, and private studios offer one-to-one yoga and reformer Pilates. Muay Thai, TRX, Tai Chi, personal training, water exercise and beach sports are also available, with a complimentary steam room and infrared sauna in separate male and female areas.

Dining

Food at Amatara is organic and whole-food, with menus tailored to each guest’s health goals on wellness programmes. Senses is the resort’s dedicated wellness restaurant, serving nourishing, healthy dishes at lunch and dinner, while Siri serves breakfast each morning and authentic Thai and Phuket dishes in the evening.

Scene specialises in fresh seafood and quality meat cuts in local and international styles, with views over the sea. For lighter moments, the Pool Terrace offers Asian and Western snacks, The Beach Table serves drinks on the beachfront, and the Sun & Moon rooftop terrace looks out across the Andaman Sea.

Good to Know

Accommodation

Amatara has 105 suites and villas set across the hillside of Cape Panwa, with warm, understated interiors and sliding doors that open up or close off each space. Every room has its own private balcony facing the Andaman Sea, and options range from spacious suites to villas with their own infinity-edge pools — a calm base between treatments and time by the sea.

Location

Amatara sits on Cape Panwa, a quiet, green headland on the south-eastern tip of Phuket, looking out across the Andaman Sea towards the small islands of Phang Nga Bay. The cape has a residential, unhurried feel, well away from the nightlife and crowds of Patong on the island’s west coast, and the resort’s hillside setting gives it a sense of seclusion without feeling remote.

Phuket Town is around 20 to 30 minutes away, with its Sino-Portuguese shophouses, cafés, local restaurants and the Sunday walking street market in the old town. Closer to the resort, the Phuket Aquarium sits at the tip of the cape, while Wat Chalong and the Big Buddha are an easy half-day trip. Chalong Pier, the starting point for boat trips to Coral Island, Koh Lon and the Racha islands, is a short drive away.
