Fivelements Retreat

Balinese Healing and Wellness Retreat

About Fivelements Retreat

Fivelements Retreat Bali is a wellness retreat set beside the sacred Ayung River, in lush jungle just outside Ubud. Since opening in 2010, it has become one of the most recognised holistic wellness destinations in Bali, known for an approach rooted in the Balinese principle of Sekala-Niskala — the recognition of both the seen and unseen dimensions of life — and in Tri Hita Karana, the philosophy of harmony between spirit, humanity and nature.

Healing takes place across physical, emotional and spiritual levels through sacred ceremonies, energy work, water blessing rituals and personalised bodywork, delivered in dedicated riverside healing suites and sacred spaces. Sakti Dining Room, the retreat's award-winning plant-forward restaurant, draws on the 3,700sqm Garden of Peace for fresh botanicals and seasonal produce — food prepared with the same care and intention as the healing work itself.

Hotel Facilities

Fivelements Retreat Bali is built using sustainable materials — bamboo, wood and natural thatch — and sits within tropical gardens and traditional stone pathways designed to blend with the surrounding jungle. Quiet sacred spaces are woven into the landscape for reflection and meditation.

The Garden of Peace covers 3,700sqm and was built using permaculture principles and traditional Balinese Subak irrigation. Its seasonal harvests supply both the kitchen and the Healing Laboratory, where botanicals are processed by hand into bespoke oils and treatment blends used throughout the spa. The Sacred Space sits at the intersection of eight major ley lines — a circular open-air site known for its natural energetic resonance and used for meditation and ceremony. The Kunda Fire Altar is the setting for Agni Hotra fire rituals. Two purpose-built bamboo yoga salas — Mandala Agung and Mandala Ayung — host yoga, meditation and group practices. An ionised swimming pool and a circular water healing pool designed for Watsu and aquatic bodywork are also available.

Wellness Facilities

Wellness therapies at Fivelements take place across six private treatment suites within the Healing Village, each with its own changing area and relaxation lounge. Double suites feature outdoor riverfront baths, set directly beside the Ayung River. Treatments draw on authentic Balinese healing traditions — energy work, intuitive bodywork, water-based therapies and guided meditation — delivered by experienced local healers.

Sessions address physical tension, emotional patterns and energetic balance, and are tailored to each guest. The treatment menu covers Balinese massage traditions, specialised healing therapies including Watsu-inspired water healing, chakra balancing, hypnotherapy and acupuncture, alongside botanical facials, body rituals and holistic hand and foot care. A dedicated manicure and pedicure suite and a boutique gym with Matrix equipment complete the facilities.

Dining

Dining at Fivelements centres on Sakti Dining Room, a bamboo pavilion set beside lotus ponds and the Ayung River. The cuisine is plant-forward and award-winning, with a strong focus on living and raw foods prepared to retain natural enzymes alongside gently cooked dishes. Organic eggs and locally sourced fish are available as supplementary options. Ingredients are largely grown in the Garden of Peace or sourced locally, and stingless bee honey from the retreat's own hives features across the menu and in selected spa treatments. Herbal teas made from garden-grown botanicals — lemongrass, pandan, ginger, rosella, cinnamon and turmeric — are served at breakfast, with guests able to create personalised blends to take home.

Signature dining experiences include the Chef's Tasting Menu (available as 3, 5 or 7 courses), the Bamboo Dining Experience with dishes cooked over wood fire in bamboo vessels, and weekly culinary classes in plant-based cooking.
