Tucked away in a peaceful corner of Koh Samui, Absolute Sanctuary is a Mediterranean-style wellness retreat that truly lives up to its name. From the moment I arrived, I felt like I was exactly where I needed to be—to reconnect, recharge, and reset. Whether you're looking for a structured detox, a transformative Reformer Pilates retreat, or just some time to unwind, this place offers it all. With more than 18 wellness programmes available, Absolute Sanctuary caters to a wide range of goals from yoga, weight loss, burnout recovery, and lifestyle change, to name a few. I chose the Rest and Rebalance programme, which turned out to be just what I needed.

Conveniently located just 15 minutes from Koh Samui Airport in the tranquil Cheong Mon area, Absolute Sanctuary is ideal for those seeking a structured health and fitness holiday in Thailand that nurtures both mind and body.

First Impressions

What struck me first were the pink buildings - yes, pink! It might sound unusual, but the colour was chosen for its connection to emotional healing and harmony, and honestly, it works. As Jee, the resort manager, explained, everything here is intentional - and I could feel that thoughtfulness from the start.

My schedule was busy in the best way. I had 2 - 3 classes or treatments each day, but the wellness reception team was fantastic at adjusting things whenever I wanted to squeeze in a bit more, like a fitness session, a beach shuttle, or even a trip to a local night market. I always felt supported, never rushed.

A Welcoming Retreat for Solo Travellers

As a solo traveller, I really appreciated how easy it was to meet people. There’s no communal table, but the resort is small enough that you naturally start chatting with others - at the Vitamin Bar, by the infinity pool, or in the lounge area. I met one guest who was only three days into the 60-day lifestyle change programme and already feeling a difference. That kind of motivation is contagious.

The Rooms at Absolute Sanctuary

There are only 38 rooms and suites at Absolute Sanctuary, spread across five buildings. Mine, a Deluxe Room, was bright, airy, and incredibly peaceful, with a private terrace and a beautiful free-standing bathtub. A yoga mat was thoughtfully placed in the room, just in case the twice-daily group classes weren’t enough (spoiler: sometimes they weren’t—I used it!).

My Wellness Programme: Rest and Rebalance

Choosing from 18 wellness programmes wasn’t easy, but I’m glad I went with Rest and Rebalance. It was designed to support both mind and body, and that’s exactly what it did. I started each morning with meditation followed by yoga, and the variety of classes kept things interesting - detox yoga, gentle flow, and even yoga Pilates.

My private session with Jana was especially helpful. We focused on breathing techniques that helped me stay more present during group classes. I actually drifted off during one session - it was that relaxing.

The life coaching sessions with Stephanie were another highlight. They gave me space to reflect and some practical tools I’ve brought back home with me.

And then there was the reformer Pilates. Wow. I’d forgotten how good it feels to really work those deep muscles. My one-on-one session with Kevin was both fun and challenging, and I ended up signing up for more. Whether you're a beginner or more advanced, there’s a class for you—targeting everything from abs and arms to legs and full-body toning.

Of course, no retreat would be complete without some indulgence. The Thai stretch massage in the open-air pavilion was absolutely dreamy and worked wonders on sore muscles.

The Food at Absolute Sanctuary

I wasn’t sure what to expect food-wise, but The Love Kitchen completely exceeded my expectations. The menu focuses on healthy, organic meals, many of which are plant-based and bursting with flavour. I loved that I could choose two dishes per meal, and yes, there were even guilt-free treats like chocolate brownies and carrot cake.

Between activities, I often found myself at the Vitamin Bar by the pool, sipping on fresh juices and smoothies. Each wellness programme includes two juices per day, and they’re made with vibrant fruit and veg combinations that keep you feeling refreshed and energised.

Would I Recommend Absolute Sanctuary?

Absolutely - pun intended! This retreat is perfect if you're looking to take time out for yourself, whether that’s to detox, focus on your fitness, or just to pause and reconnect with your body and mind. It’s especially great for solo travellers, thanks to the warm, welcoming vibe and manageable size of the resort.

It’s not just a holiday - it’s an experience that stays with you.
